5 Principles of Pain

This is an easy to use guide designed by the Canine Massage Guild to help owners identify signs and symptoms that generally respond well to clinical canine massage therapy.

It uses 5 areas of observations, daily activities and behaviours that you as an owner can identify and record. These are:

Gait

(the way your dog is moving)

Posture

(the way your dog looks)

Activities of Daily Living

(day to day things that your dog does)

Behaviour

(the way your dog is responding to everyday activities)

Performance (the way your dog is performing in activities that they normally participate in)

All of these can be indicators of muscular and myofascial pain.
